On the Trail
He is an extremely skilled face-up 4 that causes matchup problems for most teams. He can score in all facets of the game with the ability to post up smaller forwards and take bigger, slower power forwards away from the basket. Kuzma is a very good stand still jump and can make a 3-pointer pretty regularly. Kuzma also has the ability to get a defensive rebound and lead the break which is very uncommon for most post players. He will need to continue to get stronger and grow into his body. He also will need to show a toughness to his game, which has not shown consistently at this time. Overall, Kuzma is going to have lots of different leagues and levels looking at him because of his diverse skill set and the fact that he came to the Philadelphia area from Flint, Mi.
(August 30, 2013): Kuzma has committed to the University of Utah.
(August 11, 2013): Kuzma received two more high-major offers this week, with Minnesota and Miami extending scholarships. Both were first reported by Adam Zagoria.
(July 29, 2013): Kuzma told CoBL that he was offered by Connecticut on Saturday. His offers are still growing rapidly, with high-major offers from UConn, Mizzouri, Arizona State, Texas A&M, Utah, Auburn, Penn State, Seton Hall, Providence, Oregon State, and Florida State, along with eleven other mid-low major offers.
(June 7, 2013): CoBL spoke to Kuzma about the growth spurt between his freshman and senior seasons in high school that took him from an unknown point guard in Michigan to a high-major forward in Philadelphia, and also about his newest offer, to Penn State:
He’s also picking up steam on the recruiting front. Last week Kuzma picked up his latest high-major offer after Penn State extended a scholarship opportunity his way; that joins offers from “Utah, Texas A&M, Rhode Island, VCU, Northern Illinois and a bunch of other mid-majors.” With already one Big 10 offer and schools like Villanova sniffing around, it would seem that the mid-majors could be left in the dust by the time the early signing period comes around (when Kuzma hopes to make his decision).
“I went up to campus, and it was a great campus feel, everything was nice up there,” Kuzma said of his Penn State visit. “Coaches really cared about me, showed love.”
(May 16, 2013): CoBL got its first look at Kuzma at the Battle of Brotherly Love, where he impressed from the get-go:
Kuzma, who hails from Flint, Mich, scored 10 points in the championship win against North Philly, bringing his total points in the tournament to 27. The 6-foot-7 forward hit five three-pointers on Tuesday night, showing his versatility. He scored most of his points on Wednesday in the low post.
Kuzma said he has offers from Texas A&M, Rhode Island, Utah and Virginia Commonwealth. He has also had interest from Villanova, St. John’s, Missouri, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, Providence, Arizona State and USC.
