One of the area’s top junior prospects is set to make his college decision. Trenton Catholic’s Malachi Richardson Tweeted out that he would be announcing his school of choice at his high school on Friday at 2:30 PM.
Richardson, a 6-foot-6, 195-pound combo guard, is one of the elite scorers in the 2015 class nationally, able to get his shot off from any level. He’s a solid 3-point threat with NBA range but doesn’t lack for the ability to break his man down off the dribble and get to the rim.
“The way that he can shoot the ball, he has NBA size at his position,” Rob Brown, Richardson’s AAU coach with Nike-sponsored Team Final, told CoBL. “He’s got like a 6-foot-10 wingspan and he can shoot the ball, he has a tremendous pace to his game, he just affects the game a lot of different ways.”
His offer list read like a list of NCAA Tournament regulars: Arizona, Connecticut, North Carolina, Georgetown, Indiana, Syracuse, Ohio State, Villanova and more from all the top conferences around the country. A few weeks ago, he cut it down to six schools (in no particular order): Villanova, Rutgers, Arizona, Indiana, Syracuse and Connecticut.
Richardson transferred to Trenton Catholic from Roselle Catholic this offseason after playing his freshman season at TCA; that move coincided with the return of longtime TCA coach Fred Falchi to the sidelines.
