La Salle could not overcome hot shooting by Xavier, as the Explorers fell 70-63 at the Cintas Center. The game was not as close as the final score suggests, as Xavier held an 18-point lead with 2:34 left in the game before La Salle made a run.

The Explorers had three players in double figures against the Musketeers. Steve Zack, Tyrone Garland and Ramon Galloway combined to score 44 of the team’s 63 points on the day, with Garland leading the team with 16.

Tyreek Duren had a surprisingly poor performance against Xavier. La Salle’s floor general only accumulated three points on 1-of-10 shooting from the floor. He was joined in the category of poor performances by Sam Mills, who has been struggling since early December. The junior guard only took one shot, which he missed, in his 25 minutes of action.

Xavier was led by their leading scorer, Semaj Christon, who was a very efficient 8-for-11 from the field and totaled 18 points. The freshman helped Xavier win its 50th game in 51 tries at home against Atlantic 10 opponents since 2007.

La Salle came out hot, as the Explorers jumped out to a quick lead. Their largest lead was 11, with just over 10 minutes left in the first half. Then Xavier went on a massive run, and took an eight-point lead into halftime.

The Explorers are once again thrown into the fire the next time they step on the court. They take on Butler at Tom Gola Arena on Wednesday. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
