The 2013 McDonald’s All-American game announced a lengthy list of state nominees today, with 13 of Pennsylvania’s 20 nominees coming from the greater Philadelphia area.

Last year, Friends’ Central grad Amile Jefferson, now a freshman at Duke, was the area’s only selection though the state had just five candidates. That included a pair of current Villanova freshmen in Ryan Arcidiacono and Daniel Ochefu, as well as Constitution grad and UNLV frosh Savon Goodman.

Despite having more than three times as many local products on the list, it’s still going to be a longshot for more than one or two to make the final roster.

The local nods are led by the most likely candidate to make the team, Chester guard Rondae Jefferson, who’s headed for Arizona next year. Jefferson, a 6-foot-7 point guard, is a consensus top-30 national recruit who picked the Wildcats over offers from Temple, Syracuse, Rutgers, Memphis and more. Jefferson is rated by ESPN.com’s recruiting services as the best player in the state and 17th-best in the nation.

If Philly is lucky enough to send two players to the biggest of the national high school all-star games, there are a few potential candidates.

Imhotep’s Brandon Austin, another 6-7 guard, is averaging 18.0 ppg for one of the city’s best squads; he’s headed to Providence next year. Stephen Vasturia from St. Joseph’s Prep, widely recognized as one of the best all-around players in the city, is averaging 20.4 ppg and is closing in on 1500 points. There’s also Lower Merion’s sharpshooting wing, Syracuse-bound B.J. Johnson, as well as ultra-athletic point guard Rysheed Jordan, who’s deciding between Temple, St. John’s and UCLA.

The full list, which comprises hundreds of names will be pared down to just 24 boys during the McDonald’s All American Games Selection Show on ESPN-U, Feb. 14 at 5:00 p.m.

Also included are some players headed to City 6 schools next year in 2013 commits Rodney Williams (Va., St. Christopher’s/Drexel), Josh Brown (N.J., St. Anthony’s/Temple), Kyle Green (N.J.,Camden Catholic/Temple), Josh Hart (D.C., Sidwell Friends/Villanova), Kris Jenkins (D.C., Gonzaga/Villanova) and DeAndre Bembry (N.J., Patrick School/Saint Joseph’s).
