Cazmon Hayes has verbally committed to the University of Delaware, according to Verbalcommits.com.
Hayes is a 6-4 shooting guard from Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology in Charlotte, N.C.
This report confirms a Tweet that was made last week by Maurice Jones, head coach at Berry Academy, that read, “Congrats to 2013 Cardinal Cazmon Hayes on his commit to the University of Delaware. Let’s go Cards.”
Maxpreps.com has Hayes pegged as the 33rd-ranked player from the Tarheel State. According to the site, Hayes averaged 15.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game during his junior season.
A strong junior season proved that Hayes can provide scoring depth for Delaware Coach Monté Ross. Last season, Hayes registered double digit point totals in 23 of 26 games, with at least 16 points or more in 16 of those contests. Hayes was also selected as Maxpreps.com “Player of the Week Award” twice this past season.
According to Justin Byerly, writer for BasketballElite.com and CarolinaPreps.com, Hayes also had offers from Marist, Charleston Southern, Alcorn St., Virginia Military Institute, Gardner-Webb, and Wofford.
Cazmon Hayes joins DeVarte Watson, a power forward from South Carolina, as Delaware’s 2013 class. The Blue Hens were just selected to come in second place in this year’s 2012-13 CAA Preseason Poll.
