The regular season of the Delco Pro-Am is over, and the top eight teams have advanced to today’s playoffs, which begin at 8pm at Haverford College’s Douglas B. Gardiner Integrated Athletic Center (admission is still free). There are also a sextet of non-playoff teams playing between 4pm and 6pm, for all the area hoops fans that want a final chance to see some of their favorite players up close before the college and professional seasons begin in October.
Here’s the updated schedule, the LiveBlog will go live at 4:
Sunday, July 29
4pm: Warner vs. Stomp-Off, Vinny’s Pizzerama vs. Haverford, Ella Health vs. UA Owls
5pm: Trad Jazz vs. PNC Bank Ballers, “Doc P” vs. Barnaby’s, Warner vs. Haverford
4:10 PM: We’re off and running with a rather altered schedule as some teams didn’t show up for their final consolation games. On Court 1, the Haverford College team (plus Penn’s Patrick Lucas-Perry and Keelan Cairns) are taking on Stomp Off Records, which features 2012 Pro-Am standout Frank Barr and Penn’s Steve Rennard.
4:32 PM (Court 1): Halftime of the consolation game between Stomp Off Records and Haverford College, with the Haverford College team holding a 44-39 lead after the opening 20 minutes. Frank Barr continues his strong summer with 13 first-half points for Stomp Off, but Chaz Thomas‘ 20 points have the Haverford College team holding onto a five-point lead.
4:45 PM (Court 3): Under Armour Owls and Ella Health are knotted at 26 at halftime. Fran Dougherty has a game-high 10 points for Ella Health while Daniel Dingle has eight for the UA Owls, continuing his strong play of late; teammate Khalif Wyatt chipped in six.
4:58 PM (Court 1): Haverford College wins 75-67 thanks to a terrific game by Chaz Thomas, who scored 28 points to lead all scorers; Patrick Lucas-Perry (13 points) and Luke Columbo (11 points) also had solid games for the Haverford College squad. Frank Barr and Will Barrett each had 23 points in a losing effort for Stomp Off Records.
6:30 PM: Sorry for the delayed update, but the second set of games were cancelled in favor of a number of random scrimmages. Of note was the first (and only) appearance this summer of Quenton DeCosey, the St. Joseph’s-Metuchen (N.J.) graduate who starts practice with the Temple Owls tomorrow as the third member of their highly-touted 2012 class.
DeCosey had a few turnovers early but showed off a nice shot and some serious athleticism on a few dunks while playing alongside fellow Owl Will Cummings as well as Penn Quakers Henry Brooks and Miles Cartwright.
Here are tonight’s playoff matchups, which will have their own recap later on:
Playoffs: First Round
8pm: The Champs (4) vs. Omega Medical (5), Maple Zone (3) vs. TYGTAL (6)
9pm: Dragons (1) vs. Millennium (8), Radano (2) vs. KLM Insurance (7)
